No one is more responsible for the Town of Palm Beach Shores becoming The Best Little
Town in Florida” than Tom Mills. This wonderfully unique community of 1200 residents, situated
on the southern tip of Singer Island and surrounded by water on three sides, manages
— largely due to Tom’s efforts — to retain the ambiance and natural charm of a small
secluded town, despite being located in the highly developed area of South Florida.
Tom’s love affair with the Town began in 1979, when he and his family settled in
town as the new owners of Cannonsport Marina. His civic involvement began soon thereafter
with various volunteer activities including Volunteer Firefighter and continued with
his election to the Town Commission in 1981, and then as Mayor for two terms. For
the next fifteen years, his civic activities centered on professional and service
associations, earning him numerous “Man of the Year” and other prestigious awards.
Then in the year 2000, Tom was elected Mayor again, and orchestrated the much needed
upgrade of the town’s infrastructure which continues as of this writing, well into
Tom’s forth consecutive mayoral term.
Who better then, to produce this pictorial history of the town? Tom’s unique perspective
as a local citizen, business owner, elected Commissioner and Mayor over nearly three
decades is reflected in this delightful book. Enjoy!
William Hayes, former Vice-Mayor of Palm Beach Shores.
